Talents, Experiments, and Derbys...
I was so proud of my two little boys. They learned a duet on the piano (La Bamba) and then after much begging on my part tried out for the school talent show (Greenville's Got Talent). It was a really cute song and there aren't many opportunities when the song has mixed levels for my boys to play together. They agreed to tryout (maybe with a little bribe) but was told by a teacher that piano talents never make the final cut. Well they were thrilled when they found out they made it. They played at the assembly in front of the whole school. It was awesome. When the song first starts it's just Nick's part, so JD stood up from behind the piano and encouraged the audience to start clapping. Really fun to have the audience involvement. Way to go boys!!
Nick also really wanted to be involved in the School Science Fair this year. I'm ashamed to say this but I actually begged him not to do it. By that time of year, I'm starting to lose it with all the activities and frankly we didn't need another. But he was persistent and I knew there were worse things he could be asking to do so I put on my big girl panties and started looking for a project, albeit a somewhat less difficult project, but a project nontheless. Well I came across an experiment that looked fun and just happened to use the screaming monkey toy he had received for Christmas. Basically it was all about kinetic energy and how far the monkey would fly depending on how far back you pulled the rubber band in his arms. I'll admit it was pretty fun and Nick had a great time....and it got him out of class for a few hours at school (which now I'm wondering if that was the motivation all along).
JD just recently participated in the Pinewood Derby. It was pretty low key this year. The scout leaders (me included) decided it would be fun to keep the wheels and axles from the boys and put them on that night. We wanted the focus more on the boys and dads working together. It worked pretty nicely and JDs car did really well that night. He had a great time. Way to go bud!

Cool science fair project! I agree with you on science fair projects--lots of work for Momma!
ReplyDeleteThe piano duet looks awesome--I'll have to make them play that for me sometime!
